4 Ways to Avoid Scratched Marble

Marble is one of the most incredible materials in the word for interior design. From gorgeous flooring, to sleep countertops, there are a lot of way to use marble, especially in a kitchen. While this can also be used in a bathroom, the kitchen is the heart of the home and because of this, marble can really highlight the beauty and comfortability of a warm, inviting kitchen area. Marble, while beautiful, needs a bit of attention when it comes to cleaning in order to stay in tip-top shape. Here are some of the way to ensure that your marble stays unscratched over time.

Cleaning

When cleaning marble, it is important to only use sponges and soft cloths, as anything else could potentially scratch the surface of this material. Using steel wool could destroy the coating on the marble, so make sure not to use this cleaning tool, as it is highly recommended not to. On a similar note, using mild soaps and cleansers is important, as harsh cleansers can damage the sealant on your countertops and floors, making them more susceptible to scratching.

Vacuuming

It is not recommended to vacuum directly on marble. The reasoning for this is that the wheels and dragging the vacuum on the floor causes scratching. A way around this is to make sure that the wheels are working perfectly on your vacuum before dragging it along a marble floor.

Use Cutting Boards

Using cutting boards is important for two reasons. The first reason is that cutting on marble can cause scratching from the sharpness of the knife. Another reason why it is important to use cutting boards is because if you are cutting something highly acidic, like tomatoes, and lemons, it is highly likely that this acid will eat through the sealant on the marble, making it easier for damage to the marble.

Sealants

Making sure you seal your marble is very important, as it is what will keep it safe from staining, and even scratching to a degree. Doing this every few months or so is recommended, but doing this at least once a year is probably a good idea, just to make sure your marble is looking great always. On a similar note, there are gradual sealants that come in the form of an every day cleaner, making this easier for you.
