What Are Some Different Kinds of Marble?

There is a massive variety of marbles, coming in different colors, as well as many different qualities, which have been measured in interesting ways. One of the things that could even be measured is the amount of veining in the marble.

With all of this being said, there are five main types of marble that have been used for many years by many individuals. These are listed as Statuary, Carrara, Emperador, Crema Marfil, and Calacatta. These have not been listed in any particular order, but some have been known to be rarer than others. Similarly, and on a bit of a different note, some of the less rare marbles are used often by contractors, home remodeling experts and in homes. Let’s take a look at the different kinds of marble and their strengths/weaknesses.

Statuary Marble: This kind of marble is the marble that you would typically see being used to make statues. This is the kind of statue where you see dramatic veining on a typical white or grey background. Its high-gloss and shine make it perfect for a home remodeling project.

Carrara Marble: As the most commonly used marble for residences, it is also known as one of the most beautiful. It is truly unique no matter what, as all of the pieces have their own bit of fine veining, creating a rippled look.

Emperador Marble: There are a few different kinds of marble that are found in Spain, and Emperador is quite truly one of the most used in the United States. This is due to its many different colors and veining types, which makes it perfect and more versatile as a whole for people looking for a specific color and veining level. Fireplaces, kitchen counters, and even flooring can make a huge difference in your home.

Calacatta Marble: This marble would most likely not be used in a home remodeling or kitchen remodeling project, due to its extreme rarity. While it is found in the same area as the Carrara marble that was mentioned earlier, it is still quite different.

Crema Marfil Marble: Another option is this beautiful Spanish marble. Similarly, to the Emperador marble, it is largely used by contractors and interior designers alike.
